Brighton i360, Brighton
Townscape Products delivered PAS 68 Counter Terror Blocks to secure Brighton's iconic 162m observation tower, protecting thousands of daily visitors whilst maintaining its contemporary aesthetic.
British Airways i360 stands as one of Brighton's most prominent landmarks, a 162-meter tall observation tower located on the seafront in East Sussex, England. Designed, engineered, and manufactured by the team behind the iconic London Eye, this £46 million attraction draws thousands of visitors annually. From its fully enclosed viewing pod, guests experience unobstructed 360-degree panoramic views across Brighton, the South Downs, and the English Channel, making it a premier destination for both tourists and locals alike.

With high visitor footfall and over 1,000 vehicles passing the attraction every hour, securing the site against potential hostile vehicle threats presented a significant challenge. Townscape Products was engaged to design and implement comprehensive Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures that would blend seamlessly with the modern architectural surroundings while meeting stringent security standards.
Our PAS 68 rated Counter Terror Blocks proved to be the ideal solution for this demanding application. These purpose-designed blocks were engineered to require only a 100mm deep foundation recess, a critical advantage that significantly minimised groundwork disruption.
The completed installation has successfully created a secure open environment where the public can enjoy the attraction. The HVM solution balances accessibility with comprehensive security, protecting visitors and pedestrians while maintaining the welcoming character for the major tourist destination.
Today, Brighton i360 benefits from world-class hostile vehicle mitigation that operates invisibly within its landscape, allowing the tower's remarkable architecture and visitor experience to remain the focal point.
