Jalsa Salana

Location: Oaklands farm near Alton, Hampshire.

In July 2017, Oaklands farm near Alton hosted Jalsa Salana – an annual event for Ahmadiyya Muslims.

The event, which is in its 51st year, attracted people from over 100 countries, with an attendance of about 37,000 – one of the biggest Muslim festivals in the UK.

As part of the security measures put in place for the event, which included armed guards and bag checks, Townscape was asked to deliver a robust and effective security installation to fortify the perimeter of the event in order to deter and mitigate the impact of potential vehicle-borne attacks.

Project details:

Townscape carried out a comprehensive security inspection of the event site and its surrounding area to decipher the best approach to providing security.

The Counter Terror Sentry Blocks were chosen to defend the event as they act as both a physical and visual deterrent purposely built to prevent Vehicle as a Weapon (VAW) attacks.

All of our VAW range come with an advisory service to assess the specific needs of an event meaning we help select the specific products to meet your security needs.

Once all of the vulnerable access points where identified, Townscape provided deployable Counter Terror Sentry Blocks, which were positioned on the perimeter of the festival.

The Counter Terror Sentry blocks used at Jalsa Salana can be fitted on flat surfaces along with stepped level ground and weigh 2.2 tonnes, they have been designed specifically to provide perimeter security to temporary events.

The two concrete Counter Terror Sentry Blocks are chain linked to provide further protection from VAW attacks.

The Counter Terror Sentry blocks were installed and removed by Townscape, making them the perfect option for temporary event perimeter security.

The installation of Townscape’s robust temporary event perimeter security system ensured that effective defence was put in place to protect those attending the event.

The Counter Terror Sentry blocks deployed at the event were painted with high visibility black and yellow hazard lines to ward off any hostile attacks.

The security measures put in place helped ensure that all the attendees could enjoy the event with peace of mind that they were safe from any potential vehicle attacks.

Overall, the blocks were a huge success and the event ran smoothly. A representative from Townscape was on hand on the day to oversee the whole process and once the event was over, the Counter Terror Sentry Blocks were removed effectively
